Hi everyone! With COVID-19 concerns rising across the nation, you might find yourself working at home to increase social distancing efforts. Matt has been working at home 50% of the time, and while I’ve still been going into work my hours have been reduced which means I have more time at home to work on blog content for you guys (yay)!
Here are my top 5 tips on how to SUCCESSFULLY work from home!
1) Check Your Environment
Your environment is vital to your success when it comes to working from home. If you’re working on a computer sit somewhere free from distraction – use the kitchen table if you don’t have a designated workspace! From personal experience, stay away from working on the couch…it’s so tempting but I promise you’ll be more productive in a designated work space that’s separate from your “hang-out” space! I’m so grateful I finished decorating my office a couple months ago because I’ve been using it almost daily. If you have an office, this might be the perfect time to invest in that space and make it a productive room for you to thrive in!
2) Get Out of Your Pajamas!
As much as I love my PJ’s, they aren’t going to help me get into a productive work mode! When you’re sitting at your designated workspace for the day, get into athletic clothes or “real clothes” like jeans. Even though it’s not as comfortable as pajamas, you’ll kickstart the process of getting into a work mentality! Changing your clothes, doing your hair, putting makeup on, etc. makes a huge difference. It doesn’t have to be all three, but getting out of those PJ’s will shift your mindset from “sleep” to “work”!
3) Make a List
I used to do this all the time but I’ve gotten out of the habit, yet I think it’s the most essential thing you can do when working from home! Make a list of all your priority items for the day. I use the Wunderlist App on my phone and plan out my day based on the items I have on my to-do list. It will keep you on track for the day and increase the likelihood that you’ll accomplish all those things vs get distracted and watch Netflix all day!
4) Set Timers
Maybe I’m the only one who does this, but to regulate my time throughout the day I’ll set timers so I don’t miss out on the next thing on my list. For example, I’m writing this post in the morning before I go into work so I set a timer to go off at the exact moment I need to start getting ready for the day. I can get sucked into the writing process and lose track of time, so this ensures I’m not spending too much time on something I can go back to!
5) Have FUN
There’s so much uncertainty and stress going on in our daily lives right now. I fully admit that it’s been in our household too, but the biggest thing I can do to combat it is take one day at a time and have FUN. It sounds weird but what do we have if we lose our joy? Our peace of mind? We have to take care of our physical bodies AND mental state more than ever. If that means having breakfast for dinner and listening to music while you work, etc. then do it! Give yourself grace and allow yourself to have some fun during this time.
Friends, I love you with all my heart! I hope all of these tips will help you stay healthy and productive while you work from home. Stay strong!
